HIGHWAY WORK PERMIT
Highway work permits are required for any work that is to be done within or immediately adjacent to the County Road Right-of-Way. It will be the responsibility of the person(s) obtaining the permit to perform all work on the County Right-of-Way at their expense except old, failed/deteriorated private driveway pipes which will be installed by County forces.
Some examples of activities requiring a highway work permit are: installing a private or residential sub-division driveway access or parking area along a County Road, installation of any overhead or underground utility cables, pipes or structures along or under a County Road and installing any advertising sign, display or device within the County Road Right-of-Way.
DIVISIBLE LOAD/SPECIAL HAULING PERMIT
Moving overweight or over width loads on County Roads also requires a special hauling permit.
DRIVEWAY INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT PERMIT
Driveways are covered under the separate Driveway Installation and Replacement Permit shown below. If you need a new driveway, you should contact the Highway Department and a representative will discuss your plans with you and arrange to visit the site for a pre-installation inspection of the existing conditions that will help determine what size pipe is required, how much pipe is required and to discuss the Policy terms. Driveway and highway work permits are available at the Yates County Highway Department office on Rt. 14A in Benton Center. For more information on permit requirements, please contact the Highway Department at (315) 531-3200.
NON-STANDARD AND SUPPLEMENTAL/DISCRETIONARY SIGN POLICY
To establish a policy with guidelines and procedures to address the installation and maintenance of Non-Standard, Supplemental/Discretionary signs within the right-of-way on Yates County owned highways and to define who will pay for the signs, posts, installation and maintenance of each sign.
It is the intent of Yates County to provide reasonably safe roads for reasonably safe drivers and to keep the road right-of-way as clear as possible and free of obstructions and unnecessary signs which provide no useful information to road users and will not assist them in safely navigating the roadway and reaching their destinations.
